January is National Mentoring Month!
Connect with us on Facebook to share your story and hear inspiring stories from across Alaska.
• Mentors come from all walks of life and all sectors of our community – exposing their mentees to new ideas, new experiences and new interests that get them involved in positive activities in their hometowns.
• Mentoring, when done right, has been shown to give young people the tools to make responsible decisions and avoid risky behavior – making communities safer
through reduced juvenile crime.
Thank you to all of our amazing mentors!
Every day, we see and hear stories about how lives are being changed through a simple, professionally supported relationship between a child and a caring adult.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska strengthens our communities by providing mentors to all children who need and want a caring adult role model – special friends who can help them expand their horizons, realize their potential and enrich their futures – changing their lives.
Providing Tools to Succeed
Bigs provide the additional guidance and support needed to keep a child on the right path toward promise and possibility. Mentoring is about prevention, and provides children with the tools to grow and succeed in a consistent, positive environment.
Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is simple. It’s sharing time, energy and friendship with a child in need. There is no special expertise required ~ and our volunteer mentors often times get back much more than they give!
