WHY SIGN UP TO BE A BIG?

Now more than ever, our children and their parents need emotional and social support. Our team continues to provide the support and resources necessary to keep our youth connected. We use innovative tools to conduct interviews so we can match youth with their Big Brother or Big Sister.

More than 70% of our youth waiting for a Big are boys, but only 3 out of every 10 inquiries to volunteer come from men. Local and national research shows that having a positive influence can make a real difference in a young person’s life.

4 STEPS TO BECOMING A BIG

Apply online or call us to get more information.  Schedule your interview and complete our online application. 

Meet with a BBBS professional staff to complete your interview.  This in-depth interview helps us learn more about you in order to pair you with the right Little.  You will also complete required background checks and online training focused on youth development. You’ll learn all about mentoring relationships and youth protection.   

After you’ve completed the interview and training steps, get matched with a Little and start having fun doing activities that you and your Little both enjoy! 

You’ll receive ongoing support for your match from a professional Match Support Specialist.  They will give you guidance, advice, outing ideas, and just be there to support you along the way.  You’ll stay connected through our monthly newsletter as well as regular activities that we plan for you and your Little to participate in!

SHOW UP AND BE YOU.

We work hard to pair Littles with Bigs who will make a great match. You have common ground right from the start. And then all you have to do is explore and learn together, just 2-4 times a month for a year. Play sports together. Go on a hike. Read books. Eat a pizza with extra anchovies. Or just give some advice and inspiration. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy them even more with your Little—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.

LEAN ON US.

You won’t have all the answers. But you will have support. Your Match Support Specialist will guide you through rough spots or offer ideas for building the relationship with your Little. We offer plenty of activities and tickets to events, so you’ll always have something to do with your Little!
