GET A BIG
THE RIGHT ROLE MODELS.
Could your child use a Big?
For over 40 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Alaska has been able to recruit, screen, match, and support mentoring relationships that have changed the lives of thousands of young people across Alaska — one Little at a time.
Improved School Connection
Avoided Risky Behaviors
Improved Peer Relationships
YOU’LL FEEL THE IMPACT AS MUCH AS YOUR CHILD.
Youth who are matched through Big Brothers Big Sisters:
• are more confident
• are more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol
• do better in school
• get along better with their family and friends
• feel better about themselves
We enroll youth 6-16 years old in the BBBS program. We’re currently making new matches in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Mat-Su, Haines, Sitka, and Juneau.

Throughout the life of the match, our professional staff will be in ongoing communication with you, your child, and your child’s Big.
It’s the best way to build a strong relationship that will have the greatest impact on your child’s future success.
CHILD SAFETY
Making the best match is critical to the growth and development of a child. We thoroughly screen all potential Bigs.
Big Brothers Big Sisters National Standards requires each volunteer to complete a screening process that includes:
- Completing an application
- Background and reference checks
- An intensive interview
- Orientation and training processes that provide information on how to encourage your child’s development
Big Brothers Big Sisters also provides child safety tips to you and your child.
PARENTS AS PARTNERS
When it comes to the future of our youth, we’re in this together. You know what’s best for your child. You’ll provide information about your child’s strengths and needs, and approve the Big Brother or Big Sister match.
You’ll also:
• Approve activities and outings for your child
• Report your child’s progress and milestones to BBBS
• Participate in training on child safety
